Accommodation Advice

Home Stay

Please note that we work with an accommodation agency to arrange our Homestay and Private Home accommodation options.

We have included the most popular options available to international students below which details what you can expect from the different types of accommodation. If you would like to book any of these options, please contact our International Office (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. ) for more advice. When you arrive in Manchester, the Welfare Officer will always be available to give you guidance and advice on accommodation issues.

Accomodation options

Private Home - You live in a house or flat with other students. The host does not provide any services or meals. This is aimed at students who wish to live independently.

We have a very limited number of Private Home providers so please contact us at least one month before your course starts if you would like to request this option.

Self-catered - students have use of the kitchen to prepare their own meals and cook for themselves.

Bed and breakfast - students are provided with breakfast by the host family. This will generally consist of the choice of cereal, toast or fruit.

Half board – Students are provided with breakfast and an evening meal by the host family. A suitable time for dinner should be agreed between the student and the host family, and you should let your host family know in advance if you won’t be home for dinner, or would like dinner to be saved for you to eat if you will be late one evening.

What you can expect from our accommodation options?

  • Your own room including; a bed, storage space and desk.
  • Your meals cooked for you (half board and bed and breakfast only)
  • Your laundry cleaned for you (only for half board, bed and breakfast options)
  • Clean bedding and towels changed on a weekly basis.
  • Feel secure and welcomed in a warm UK family environment.
  • Home Stay families will be no more than 30 minutes commute from the College.
  • All bus, train and metro link routes and timetables will be provided to you.
  • All families are regularly inspected in accordance with the agency guidelines which meet our own strict standards for safety and comfort.

Prices

Single room, self-catered - £115 per week

Single room, bed and breakfast  - £130 per week

Single room, half board - £145 per week

We charge a £50.00 booking fee for all accommodation types.

Arrival and Departure

Students are permitted to arrive one day before the start date of their course and depart on day after completion. Any additional nights accommodation must be confirmed and paid for directly with the host prior to arrival. Where a host cannot provide additional nights accommodation, students must arrange their own private accommodation.

Cancellation policy

Students who cancel over two weeks before their planned arrival date will receive a full refund of the accommodation fees. The booking fee is non-refundable.

If you cancel your placement, for any reason, within two weeks of the start date of your placement or, after the start date of the placement, you will be charged for 2 weeks of accommodation fees.

Upon arrival, if you, or your host family, have a problem which cannot be resolved, we will try to provide you with a suitable alternative accommodation option. You will be expected to pay the family for the length of time that you have stayed with them.

House Rules

Please remember that you are staying in someone else’s family home and you should show respect and consideration towards all other family members, as they should for you.

Guidelines to help you have a happy and harmonious stay

    • You should agree rules and guidelines with the family within the first few days of arrival, so that everyone knows what is expected of them
    • You should keep you room tidy!
    • If you smoke, you must find out the smoking policy  (eg. you may be allowed to smoke in certain rooms, or only outside)
    • You should be quiet, especially if you come home late at night
    • You should find out what the policy on having friends over to visit you
    • You should discuss and agree the rules regarding using family rooms and access to the TV
    • You should plan your mornings around the family routine so that you do not all need the bathroom or kitchen at the same time
    • You should ensure that your host family have your UK mobile number so they can contact you if necessary
    • Any damages made should be paid for by the student to the host family directly.
    • You should always take out insurance to cover your stay in the UK. Please visit our recommended insurance partner, Endsleigh, for more information.

We have included the most popular options available to international students below which details what you can expect from the different types of accommodation. Student halls are probably one of the best ways to experience real student life in the UK.

Student halls are extremely popular with first year students in the UK. Staying in student halls will allow you to be independent whilst also enjoying the benefits of meeting new friends and experiencing life in Manchester City centre.

We are aware that moving to a new country or even city can be a sometimes daunting experience. However to make this process easier and make your time in Manchester as pleasant as possible, we recommend Digs Student as our preferred accommodation provider. DIGS are a leading national operator of student halls and have earned a reputation for their commitment to outstanding customer service and of always putting their students first.

Shared Housing

Shared Housing

Shared Housing is where a group of students rent a property and share the rent and bills between them. There are many shared houses to rent in and around Manchester. You can also rent your own property without friends or flatmates. Please note that this is an expensive option and if you choose to live alone in your own property, you may miss out on the chance to practice your English with others. You may also feel a little lonely or isolated if you live on your own and you're not used to this arrangement. If you feel isolated, please speak to your Welfare Officer for advice.

The prices could vary from around £60 - £150 per week per student. This is exclusive of bills. The bills remain the student’s responsibility at all times.

The college can only advise on how to find accommodation of this type. We recommend that you use these websites to find suitable private accommodation before your arrival to the UK:

Please use the following college address:

68 Grosvenor Street
Manchester
M1 7EW

We recommend you view houses within a ten mile radius. This will ensure you are not too far away from the college to attend your lessons.

Please remember that if you rent or share a flat or house, you will need to sign a legally binding contract. You will usually be required to pay a deposit (normally one month's rent) and if you use an agency, an agency finders fee (fees vary and all agencies are legally obliged to tell you how much this will cost. You may need to pay up to the equivalent of one month's rent as a fee). Before you sign any rental contract, please speak to us in the college as this is a serious commitment.

Please be careful when arranging a viewing, and always try to take a friend with you when you view a room in a flat or house.

If you arrange a viewing of a room or flat and the owner asks you to make a Western Union transfer or bank transfer before you view the flat, please do not transfer ANY money! This is usually a scam and you will not get your money back. If you need advice, please contact the college directly for assistance.

Booking this type of accommodation is solely the responsibility of the student. If you need any further advice please contact the International Office on This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
