Course Description

Our General English Intensive course is aimed at students who want to progress quicker and work more intensively. Students can study General English at two different learner levels or General English plus an Exam Preparation class.

 

We strongly recommend that long-term students take an Exam course in their final term and Exam Skills Option Classes in Terms 1 and/or 2.

 

22 lessons x 60 minutes per week

 

Monday - Friday

Morning and afternoon classes from 09:15 - 16:45 (with self-study slots)

 

General English/Exam Preparation (8 x 60 minutes per week)
Computer Labs (2 x 60 minutes per week)
Option Class 1 (2 x 60 minutes per week)
Option Class 2 (2 x 60 minutes per week)
Option Class 3 (2 x 60 minutes per week)
Option Class 4 (2 x 60 minutes per week)
Conversation Class (2 x 60 minutes per week)
Guided Self-Study* (2 x 60 minutes per week)
* Students have access to a teacher during the Guided Self-Study Sessions

 

In General English classes, our tutors will help you progress in all language areas, with a focus on spoken and written production.

 

In Exam Preparation classes, our tutors will provide training in exam techniques and skills while also helping you continue to progress in all language areas.

 

In Computer Lab classes, we use up-to-date computer software to provide further language and exam practice so that you can study at your own pace, focusing on individual learning goals, identified in an initial Needs Analysis and ongoing tutorials.

 

You can choose four Option Classes, allowing you to focus on language areas of interest or areas of improvement.

General English Intensive can be offered to students at Beginner level (CEFR A1) through to Upper Advanced level (CEFR C2).

 

General English + Exam Preparation Intensive can be offered to students at Intermediate level (CEFR B1) through to Upper Advanced level (CEFR C2), depending on exam level requirements.

 

Average class size 10-12 (maximum 15 students, minimum 5 students).

 

Minimum age 16.

 

Please note that the college is closed on Bank Holidays.

Course Progression

At Intermediate level and above (CEFB1-C2) students can progress onto an International Foundation Year Programme, a higher level General English Course or one of our many Business or IT programmes at MIC.

Entry Requirements International students outside the EU/EAA require CEFR Level B1 in English (this is the equivalent of IELTS 4.5) if applying for a Tier 4 Student Visa.
Visa Advice International students from outside the EU/EAA will need either a Student Visitor visa, Extended Student Visitor visa, or Tier 4 (General) student visa.
Additional Costs

All course materials are included in the course fees. However, students will be expected to provide stationery and files for their personal use.

 

Students will need to pay exam fees for external examinations.

  • Cambridge Examinations FCE, CAE, CPE - £125
  • KET, PET - £75

 

Students will be expected to pay reasonable costs to take part in some social activities to cover the cost of entrance fees and transportation.

 

Manchester Airport Pick-Up Service: £50 one way or £100 return.

 

Registration Fee: £50 for Overseas Non-EU nationals, £30 for Overseas EU nationals and £20 for 'Local' students.

 

Express Courier Delivery Charge: £20.
