Course Description

In our General English Basic course, we use communicative methodology and blended learning, to provide a varied and engaging course which maximises student progressions.

The General English Basic course is most suitable for busy working students living in Manchester or students who want to have more time to explore Manchester and the surrounding area while they are here.

 

10 lessons x 60 minutes per week

 

Monday - Friday

Morning classes: 09:15 - 11:30 

Afternoon classes: 14:30 - 16:45

 

General English (8 x 60 minutes per week)

 

In General English classes, our tutors will help you progress in all language areas, with a focus on spoken and written production. Our syllabus is mapped to the Common European Framework of Reference, combining communicative classroom-based lessons and modern technology.

 

Computer Labs (2 x 60 minutes per week)

 

In Computer Lab classes, we use up-to-date computer software to provide further language practise so that you can study at your own pace, focusing on individual learning goals, identified in an initial Needs Analysis and ongoing tutorials.

 

This course can be offered to students at Beginner level (CEFR A1) through to Upper Advanced level (CEFR C2).

 

Average class size 10-12 (maximum 15 students, minimum 5 students). 

 

Minimum age 16.

 

Please note that the college is closed on Bank Holidays.

Course Progression

At Intermediate level and above (CEFB1-C2) students can progress onto an Exam Course, an International Foundation Year Programme or one of our many Business or IT programmes at MIC.

Entry Requirements Any level of English.
Visa Advice International students from outside the EU/EAA will need either a Student Visitor visa. This course would not qualify for a Tier 4 (General) student visa.
Additional Costs

All course materials are included in the course fees. However, students will be expected to provide stationery and files for their personal use.

 

Students are expected to pay all external examination fees (excluding all NCC examinations). The approximate cost for examinations in November 2013 is:

  • IELTS - £135
  • Cambridge Examinations FCE, CAE, CPE - £125
  • KET, PET - £75

 

Students will be expected to pay reasonable costs to take part in some social activities to cover the cost of entrance fees and transportation.

 

Manchester Airport Pick-Up Service: £50 one way or £100 return.

 

Registration Fee: £50 for Overseas Non-EU nationals, £30 for Overseas EU nationals and £20 for 'Local' students.

 

Express Courier Delivery Charge: £20.
